hotel resilient platform
A RESILIENT HOTEL IS CRISIS RESILIENT, CLIMATE FRIENDLY AND RESPONSIBLE.
The Hotel Resilient platform provides science-based measurements, hotel-specific guidance and e-learning content to make the transformation to crisis resilience, low-emissions and social responsibility a reality. All hotel types from small boutique hotels to large independent or chain hotels are supported.
Crisis Resilient Module: Measure your risk from multiple hazards and take action to reduce your risk through a series hazard-specific and risk-based audit modules addressing: earthquakes, floods, windstorms, tsunamis, bush fire, pandemics, security threats, technological hazards and future climate change impacts from extreme weather events
Climate Friendly Module: Measure your carbon footprint and take targeted action to reduce your emissions through a series of audit modules including topics such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste reduction. Start with our free step-in climate friendly audit and step-up to develop your own climate resilience plan and climate targets commitment.
Responsible Hotel Module: Start by seeing if you meet the minimum hotel sustainability criteria, and then step-up to get endorsed for meeting the GSTC-based Responsible Hotel criteria. From there we guide you through deep-dives into specific and detailed sustainability actions such as Single-Use Plastic, Water Stewardship, Animal Welfare, and many more topics.
Hotel Resilient has developed Global Standards that contain over 250 compliance criteria and guidelines in 9 core components that can be used consistently to ensure that hotels and resorts comply with hazard-specific disaster risk management and climate change adaptation standards in a measurable way.
- BUILDINGS – Criteria includes location details pertaining to hazards and site, structural elements and a variety of non-structural characteristics of the hotel property.
- SYSTEMS – Criteria includes the systems within the property and buildings that the hotel needs to function, with emphasis on those systems most needed in emergency situations, such as fire protection, evacuation, and backup power.
- MANAGEMENT – Criteria includes plans, processes and activities surrounding disaster preparedness, response, communication and business continuity.

Hotel Resilient has partnered with SUNx Climate Friendly Travel managed by the EU-based not-for-profit Green Growth & Travelism Institute (GGTI), to develop a set of Climate Resilience criteria for hotels in line with the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Paris Agreement through Climate Friendly Travel (CFT).
A key first step of the climate-friendly module is to measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in order to obtain a baseline to compare future reductions. Hotels are then supported to develop a climate resilience plan using outputs of the climate risk calculator, and guided through different areas to manage, reduce or offset GHG emissions. Specific audits which focus on reducing GHG emissions, include:
- GREEN TRANSPORTATION
- FOOD WASTE
- FOOD SOURCING
- SINGLE-USE PLASTIC
- RENEWABLE ENERGY
- CARBON OFFSET
Hotel Resilient together with Exo Travel and Khiri Travel have developed the Responsible Hotel Criteria that prioritize social, environmental, and economic sustainability in hotel operations. The Responsible Hotel assessment, includes a step-in assessment designed by and adopted by Travelife Tour Operators and Travel Agents to address minimum sustainability criteria for hotels. The Responsible Hotel series of audits have deep-dives that provide software-supported guidance for hotels to go the extra mile on:
- ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY – Reducing energy and water consumption, using renewable energy sources, and reducing waste.
- SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – Ethical labor practices, support local communities, engage in sustainable activities and experiences.
- RESPONSIBLE SOURCING – Locally sourced and organic products, reducing their carbon footprint and supporting local communities.
- EDUCATION AND AWARENESS – Educating guests and staff about sustainable practices and encourage participation in these activites.
